Nancy Hanger Obituary


DR. NANCY WELCH HANGER, of Huntington, WV died on June 26, 2025 at the home of her brother, Keith Hanger, in Williamsburg, VA. Nancy was born on May 29, 1937 in Huntington, WV, the daughter of the late Harry Louis and Estelle Lambert Hanger.
She was a graduate of Huntington East High School and obtained her undergraduate and Master's degrees from Marshall University. She earned a doctorate from Ohio University. A lifelong educator, Nancy taught for eight years in Cabell County's elementary schools and then thirty two years as a professor of education at Marshall University. She was a member of Beverly Hills United Methodist Church where she served on various committees, a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma a key women educators honorary, a herd fan, animal lover and enjoyed Appalachian music.
She is survived by her brother, Keith E. Hanger, niece Debbie Ramer and her husband Scott, and their sons Trevor and Nathan of Williamsburg, VA, niece Sherrie Alexander and her husband Dan and son Houlden of Winchester, VA, and nephew Mike Hanger and his wife Kate and daughters Cora and Brady of Lanexa, VA.
Nancy will be buried beside her parents in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. The family will hold a memorial service for her at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Marshall University or Huntington Wayne Cabell County Animal Control Shelter.

I worked with Nancy at St. Mary's as volunteer in the mail room.. We became friends from on. She was just a good person and I so sorry of her passing.

I worked with Harry Hanger when I was the Terminal Trainmaster´s secretary and he Iwas the Weighmaster in the 1960´s at the 16 St.Yard office.
and I recall that he was one of the nicest gentleman and was SO proud of his two children. Sorry to learn of Nancy´s passing.
