HARRIS, Viola Carroll, 89, died peacefully September 2, 2010. Born in Lexington, Ky., she spent most of her adult life in Wilmington, Del. She took pride in her job as homemaker, mother and grandmother. She was also proud of her volunteer service in the emergency rooms of the Wilmington Medical Center and her 50+ years of membership at Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a volunteer receptionist and active in the Women's Association, being named as its Woman of the Year in 1983. She was predeceased in 1990 by her husband of 48 years, Hillman C. Harris. She is survived by two sons, David and his wife, Mary, of Middletown, N.J., Jack and his wife, Dale, of Monroe Township, N.J.; two daughters, Susan and her husband, Niles, of Newark, Del. and Jennifer and her husband, Tim, of Midlothian, Va.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Richmond on Wednesday, September 8 at 11 a.m. A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 9 at McCrery Funeral Home on Concord Pike in Wilmington, Del. Burial at Grace Lawn Memorial Park will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Southminster building fund, Asera Hospice, or a charity of your choice.

It was a true pleasure and blessing to have known Viola. She was a very gracious and sweet person. Whenever I saw her, she always made me feel special. She will be missed. Love and condolences to the family.
