Virginia Daughtrey Obituary

DAUGHTREY, Virginia Brooks Manry, 85, widow of Walter Frank Daughtrey Jr., M.D., died January 7, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Southampton County, the only child of Wilbur Jordan and Eleanor Brooks Manry, and attended St. Mary's School in Raleigh, N.C. and Westhampton College of the University of Richmond. Mrs. Daughtrey was a member of the Southampton County Historical Society, the Jamestowne Society, the Franklin Garden Club and the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She was a member of the Courtland United Methodist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia D. Storey; a son, Walter Frank Daughtrey III, both of Richmond; six grandchildren, John A. Storey (Katie), Scott J. Storey (Mollie), Stephen K. Storey, Virginia S. Graef (Harry), Brooks S. Daughtrey and Walter F. Daughtrey IV; and six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 at Courtland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Gordon officiating. Interment will follow in the Mahone-Manry Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the residence and suggests memorials be made to the Courtland United Methodist Church, 22264 Main Street, Courtland, Va. 23837.
