AULANDER, NC - Robert Hunter Daughtrey, Jr., born on February 4, 1957, in Suffolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at MacGregor Downs Nursing and Rehabilitation in Greenville, North Carolina, at the age of 68. A devoted family man and a pillar of his community, Robert will be remembered fondly by all those who knew him.
Robert dedicated his career to highway maintenance with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT). Known for his unparalleled work ethic, Robert instilled in his family the value of hard work and believed that things aren't free-you must work for what you want in life.
A longtime devoted member of St. Johns Baptist Church, his faith was evident in all aspects of his life. His passions extended beyond his professional life; he found immense joy as an enthusiastic supporter of the San Francisco 49ers, a skilled woodworker, and a proud steward of his lawn. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather, cherishing every moment he spent with his adored grandchildren. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Hunter Daughtrey and Mattie McKeel Daughtrey, and his beloved sisters, Joan Perry and Diana Cooke. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Peggy Morris Daughtrey; his sons, Andy Daughtrey and wife Shelly, and Justin Daughtrey and wife Anna; and his adored grandchildren, Colin, Gabby, Maxton, and Emma Daughtrey, all residing in Greenville. He is also survived by his siblings: Robin Casper of Bethel, Alan Daughtrey and wife Cheryl of Ontario, Canada, Kenneth Daughtrey of Aulander, Richard Daughtrey and wife Angi of Henderson, Darlene Williams and husband Ricky of Seaboard, Donna Lassiter of Aulander, Mike Daughtrey and wife Lil of Aulander, and Clarene Dawson and husband Joseph of Aulander, along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, extended family, and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC, and any other times at the home.
