Janice Morris Obituary

AHOSKIE, NC – Janice Wiggins Morris, age 98, passed away peacefully in her home on October 8, 2025. Her strong faith in the Lord, strength, perseverance, love for others, kindness, and gentleness will never be forgotten. Born in Ahoskie on November 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Randall Frost Wiggins and Ruth Chamblee Wiggins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Thomas Thurman Morris, Jr., and her brother Oris Paul Wiggins.
Janice was a graduate of Ahoskie High School and attended Campbell College, where she studied business. She was meticulous with record keeping, balancing, and counting money. She worked for Northstate Provision Company and retired after 25 years from Planters National Bank. In her early retirement years, she also worked in the business office at Farmers Warehouse during tobacco season.
She was a people person, always having a smile and a kind word for anyone she met. Janice cherished and valued her many friendships and never met a stranger. Everyone who knew her commented that Janice was "one sweet lady". Her love for her church and the Lord was clearly evident as she lived an exemplary Christian life by always reading her Bible, praying, giving to her church, and always helping others. Cooking was one of her favorite things to do, and anyone who was fortunate enough to eat something she prepared knew she was an excellent cook. Wonderful memories were made around her dinner table. She was always the first to make a meal or a treat for a friend, church member, or neighbor in their time of need, or just because she cared for them.
Playing bridge was her favorite pastime, as well as working on various committees at church, golfing, and walking with friends.
Left to cherish Janice's memory is her son, Thomas Gary Morris, and his wife, Claudia of Ahoskie; daughter, Rhonda Morris Williams of Rocky Mount; and daughter, Audrey Morris Quattlebaum and her husband Greg of The Villages, Florida. She was blessed with four grandchildren, Lauren Hall Morris of Ahoskie; Greyson Morris and his wife, Teresa of Ahoskie; McKenzie Quattlebaum and her husband, Blake Gullatte of Charlotte; and Cade Quattlebaum and his wife, Hailee of Ahoskie. Her five great-granddaughters, Madalynn (Maddie), Ryleigh, and Sarah Morris, and Evelyn and Emery Quattlebaum, brought immense joy to her life.
The family would like to say a special thank you for the love, care, and devotion given to Janice by Regina Branch, Sabrina Watford, Lynne Reynolds, "T" Tikeyla Powell, Shirley Walker, Betty Watford, Tammy Mullins, and Jen Myers.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at The First Baptist Church in Ahoskie, with Dr. Rev. Daniel Glaze officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at a reception in the fellowship hall.
