I first met Mr. Bates when I started working for RMA in 1985 as a toll attendant at the Blvd Bridge where he was a supervisor. Having lost my father at a very young age Mr. Bates would always give me some fatherly advice when I needed it. He was also very instrumental in teaching me the necessary skills to becaome a supervisor. Some years later I got the opportunity to work at the Blvd Bridge as a supervisor with Mr. Bates. I will always remember Mr. Bates for that smile he had and the way he care about people. My condolence to Whalen and his family.

Mrs. Bates,Robin,Whalen,and Tracy I have known this family and been a part of this family since I was a little girl. I will truly miss Mr. Bates and his jokes. He truly used to have a ball messing with my 2 children as they were growing up. Always remember that God only takes the best. Margaret,even though Whalen was my brother-in-law,he treated me much like a Father would treat his own daughter.Whalen loved life and he made sure those that were close to him enjoyed life,also.I will keep good memories of Whalen and how he took care of his family and me as time go by.I also look towards the time when he will hear Jesus voice calling to him to come out and ''do more good things' during the resurrection joy.

I am so saddened at the loss of Mr. Bates. He always had a smile and a joke for the kids in the neighborhood. I will always remember him with fondness.
