Thomas Scott Obituary

Thomas J. Scott (age 84) - husband, father, grandfather, friend, attorney - left this life on January 11, 2018, after a battle with cancer that consumed his body, but not his mind or spirit. A first-generation American, Tom was born and raised in New York City by Thomas and Celia Scott. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. While working at S. H. Kress, he met Patricia Brophy, who would be the love of his life. They were married in 1958 and raised 8 children. Tom earned an electrical engineering degree from Manhattan College and a law degree from Fordham University. He worked for Sperry/Unisys both in New York and Blue Bell, PA, for 55 years. While in New York, he was an active member of St. Anastasia RC Church and the community. Tom coached CYO basketball and soccer, served as an assistant Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. In Blue Bell, he was a member of St. Helena parish and a proud member of the Irish Society. In recent years, he and Pat have enjoyed dancing with Rosemary Timoney’s Irish dancing group, attending the theater, and traveling with family and friends through the US and Europe. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and brother Mattie. He is survived by his wife Pat, his children: Michael (Sue), Patricia, Sheila (Bob), Thomas (Delores), Brian, Stephen (Jacqueline), Robert (Bernadette) and Edward (Kristin), grandchildren (Ian, Brittany, Liam, Victor, Brian, Nicole, Jordan, Taylor, Bailey, Ryan, Christopher, Evan and Ciaran), as well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Arrangements for a celebration of Thomas J. Scott’s life will be handled by Szpindor-Meyers Funeral Home in Trooper, PA. Viewing will be held at the funeral home from 4-6 PM, Sunday, Jan. 14 - 101 N. Park Ave. (Rt. 363 Trooper), Norristown, PA. A second viewing will be held from 8:50 to 9:50 AM, Monday, Jan.15, followed by a mass of Christian burial at St. Helena Roman Catholic Church in Centre Square, PA. Burial will follow at St. John Neuman Cemetery in Chalfont, PA. In lieu of flowers, Tom and his family request that donations be made to Tom’s favorite charity Amigos de Jesus Orphanage (https://www.amigosdejesus.org/ ) or a charity of your choice. Uncle Thomas was a one of a kind. Despite having no contact with him for way too long I'll always cherish the memories of him teaching me how to play chess.
Rest in peace uncle Tom; always remembered and always loved.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any mans death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
