Robert Baurley Obituary

Robert G. Baurley, a retired aerospace engineer, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 at the age of 83.
Mr. Baurley, a resident of King of Prussia, was a member of Mother of Divine Providence R.C. Church, King of Prussia.
He was employed by the former General Electric of King of Prussia. Mr. Baurley was with General Electric from the beginning, starting in 1951 as a draftsman. He started in Rensselaer, N.Y., transferred to Schenectady, N.Y. then to the Chestnut St. office in Philadelphia and finally to Valley Forge, where he retired after 35 years with the company. Mr. Baurley was responsible for the parachutes and flairs for the reentry system for the space capsules, he worked on the arm of the space shuttles and the Lunar Rover for the moon. He was involved with multiple nuclear warheads for the Merv and Minuteman cruise missles and ICBM.
He taught Physics, Engineering and Calculus at Penn State, Great Valley Campus and Montgomery County Community College. He also ran the Technology program at Montco Vo-Tech School.
Mr. Baurley was a graduate of Mt. St. Michaels High School in Manhattan and the Manhattan College. He received his Masters Degree in Engineering from Penn State University.
Mr. Baurley enjoyed golf, fishing in Maryland, row boating and the company of his children and grandchildren.
Born in Bronx, N.Y. on Oct. 11, 1928, he was the son of the late Henry and Mary (Knockler) Baurley and the husband of the late Therese (Scheuer) Baurley who died Nov. 9, 1995.
Surviving are his loving children: Patricia T. Dunn and her husband Joseph of Conshohocken, Michael R. Baurley and his wife Lisa A. of King of Prussia and Kathleen T. Baurley of King of Prussia; grandchildren: J. Paul Dunn and his wife Laura, Steven A. Dunn, Dyana L. Baurley and Robert M. Baurley.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorraine (Baurley) Ryan; grandson, Ryan M. Baurley; and a brother Henry Baurley.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. in Mother of Divine Providence R.C. Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, West Norriton Twp. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Thursday morning from 9 to 9:50 a.m. at the church.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Lafayette Ambulance & Rescue Squad 180 N. Henderson Rd. King of Prussia, Pa. 19406 in memory of Robert G. Baurley.
Arrangements are by the Bernard S. Gutkowski Funeral Home Inc. of Swedesburg, Upper Merion Twp.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
