Ellis Ingram, 79, affectionately known as "Big Dad," passed away at home on Sunday following a long illness. He was born in Louisville, Ky.
Ellis worked for the Department of Transportation as an electrician and later at Mare Island Shipyard, retiring in 1991 after 30 years. He served his country in the United States Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Parachutist Badge and Korean Service Medal with three bronze stars. He was dedicated to his church, Trinity Church of God in Christ, serving as an usher, deacon and Sunday school superintendent.
"Big Dad" loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy and Lillian Ingram; two sisters, Dorothy and Arlena; and brother, James.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ingram; daughters, Helena (Willie) and Gaynelle Randolph; sons, Larry Ingram, Ellis Ingram Jr. (Joy), James Ingram and Deon Ingram; stepdaughters, Constance and Reona (Jarrod); stepsons, Rodney Howard (Lucy) and Lamar Gaines; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, 524 Capitol St., Vallejo. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 2, at Evangelist Temple Fellowship Center Church of God in Christ, 848 Sonoma Blvd, Vallejo, with Elder Matthew Runnels officiating. Burial will be at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon.

Deacon Ingram was a wonderful man. We served in church together at Vallejo Deliverance Center and Evangelist Temple. He will be missed by many people.
