Mother Dickson passed away peacefully in her sleep on Oct. 14, 2010 at 8:50 a.m. after a short illness in Vallejo, Calif. She was 91 years young.
Lena, or Mother Dickson, or even the "Quilt Lady" as she was more commonly known, was born on Jan. 19, 1919 in Sherevport, La., and passed at home surrounded by her children.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Clinton Sr., and her son, Richard. She leaves behind her 11 children, Edna Clara, Clinton Jr., James Andrew, Bruce Gene, Mary Ann, Clifton Ray, Evelyn Ruth, John Samuel, Steven Edward, Lorraine Mae and Linda Denise.
Mother Dickson was a devout Christian and lived for the day she would be called home. She married her childhood sweetheart, Clinton Dickson, Sr. in 1936 and moved to Vallejo in 1944. They had 12 children together, who all will miss their precious mother.
Mother Dickson leaves behind her 11 surviving children and an abundance of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a host of family members, not to mention her friends in faith and the many people who have had the pleasure of meeting, or purchasing her widely coveted quilts.
Visitation will be held 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at Old Path Miracle Cathedral, COGIC, 500 Arkansas St., Vallejo. Interment will follow at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Vallejo.
In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the Adult Day Services of Napa Valley, a program of Napa Valley Hospice and Adult Day Services, where Mother Dickson's special needs daughter attends school. Donations may be made to 414 S. Jefferson St., Napa, CA 94559.
Arrangements are under the direction and care of Twin Chapels Mortuary, Vallejo, (707) 552-6696.

I love mother Dickson. She was always so loving to me. I will never ever forget how much She was there for me. She planted the mustard seed that took me back to church and ultimately lead Maurcus Wells and myself onto a journey of spreading Jesus. That is the most loving priceless gift I have ever received. Rest in Heaven.

I never met Lena, but I did buy several of her quilts when I lived in Marinwood, Ca. when I worked at Bell Market in the mid 90's . She had a friend there that knew her, and he told me about her quilts. It was through him that I ordered them from her. The denim quilts, I gave to my two older grandsons and I have one that I have kept for myself, locked up in an old truck that I have. I haven't used it but I will I just got it out today, and looked up her name today. I found her. I am sorry I found her to late to thank her. I wish I would have met her. Her quilt inspired me now that I am retired, to make one myself. In her honor. Thank You Lena.

To The Dickson Family our prayers go out to you all. Mrs. Dickson will never be forgotten. I remember 31 years ago when Mrs. Dickson and Diane Hayes-Dickson would come to my job in Concord to deliver quilts that people had ordered and I was so lucky to be around when they showed up and I purchased a quilt. I still have that quilt. I used that quilt on my oldest, and youngest daughter and also used on my granddaughter who is now 2 years old and the condition on the quilt is still perfect. She was truly a blessing.
