Richard Dickson Obituary

Nov. 4, 1942 - Sept. 15, 2010

Richard passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sept. 15, 2010 after a lengthy illness, in Vallejo, Calif. He was 67. Richard was the third of 12 children born to Clinton and Lena Dickson, Sr. on Nov. 4, 1942, in Shreveport, La.

Richard, well known in Vallejo for his "golden vocal cords," loved to sing and draw. He was an accomplished artist in both fields. For many years, Richard had a successful singing career with John Turk and the 3rd. St. Annex, featuring Richard Dickson.

Richard was a fun-loving person and thoroughly enjoyed all family affairs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Dickson, Sr. He leaves behind his loving daughter, Shannon Dickson; his mother, Mother Lena Dickson; six brothers; five sisters; and a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to send a "special thanks" to the care-givers at the Windsor Vallejo Care

Center, who had taken care of him for several years. A private memorial for family members has already been held.

Dickson was my first guide in my life as a 19-year old girl who helped me “choose” in life my career path and set me out toward the direction my heart gravitated.... music. I’ve never turned back since that moment. I am appreciative and so grateful to have spent those formative years of my
young adulthood being guided toward my inner light by Dickson! The last time I saw him I was performing in Vallejo California with Norman Connors. Unexpectedly, a man walked up to me and said “baby you made it!“ I hadn’t seen Dickson in 25 years and I didn’t know who he was at the time. And he didn’t say. But later I reflected and remembered. Thank you Dickson for your guidance, support, and protection as I set out “on my skateboard” (our analogy) to find my way through life and love. You were right, dear heart. Life is long... so I did what you told me... I fastened my seatbelt.” Much love, chanting, and prayers for you, from me... always! To your daughter Shannon: I’ve never seen a man so proud of his daughter as Dickson was so proud of you! You were very lucky to have him! He was a phenomenal influence in my life... I’m happy I had 3 years to learn the “game of life” from him before setting out on the long winding road alone as a “music-woman.” I thank him for that knowledge. Much love to you and your family. So sorry for your loss. I went to Junior High with Richard and was very impressed with him. Though I only knew him a few years I never forgot him. He always had a smile and made people laugh. He was one of my favorite people during those years. Even then he was musically inclined and extremely entertaining. Richard was a beautiful person and stood heads above his peers.
