Dolores Leehan Obituary

GRAPEVINE, Texas — Dolores Romaine Carter Leehan passed away on Jan. 3, 2018, at the Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Grapevine, Texas. Formerly of Forty Fort and Dallas, she recently resided at Christus St. Joseph Village in Coppell, Texas.

Dolores was born April 3, 1931, in White Haven, to Clarence and Margaret Muendlein Carter. Following her mother's passing shortly after her birth, Dolores was raised by her aunt and uncle, Lena and Howard Holcomb, whom she affectionately referred to as her Mom and Dad.

Dolores, known to her classmates as "Hoke," grew up in Kingston and graduated from Kingston High School in 1949. She was employed at the Wyoming National Bank in Wilkes-Barre and later worked for pediatrician Dr. Howard Y. Harris of Kingston. Dolores married Gerald "Jerry" Leehan, and they were happily married for 49 years until Jerry's passing in 2002. Her family surmises she and Jerry are in heaven dancing up a storm in true jitterbug fashion. She will be forever missed and remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, Grammy and Great-Grammy, sister and aunt by her family.

She enjoyed card club activities, ladies golf league, Kingston High School reunion lunch gatherings, and associations at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Dallas. Dolores was active with the Republican GOP in Luzerne County, served on the board for the Office of the Aging, volunteered many years with Arts at Hayfield, served as P\president of the Ladies Golf League at Newberry Estates, and as a committee member for the Newberry Estates Condominium Association and a lifetime member at Harvey's Lake Yacht Club. She was an avid reader, delighted in completing crossword puzzles and knitting.

In addition to Dolores' parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert and Harold Carter, Robert Holcomb, and step-brother, Clarence Carter.

She is survived by her three children, Michele "Shelly" Meyer, of Millersville, G. Charles "Chic" Leehan and wife, Angie, of Plano, Texas, and Eugene P. "Gene" Leehan and wife, Jaqueline, of Grapevine, Texas; brother, Leroy Carter and wife, Mary, of White Haven; grandchildren, George Meyer V, Danielle Pinerri, Patrick Meyer, Lauren Leehan and Matthew Leehan; great-grandchildren, George VI, Maggie and Augustus; as well as numerous loved ones.

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the staff members at St. Joseph Village, Coppell, Texas, and Meadows Manor, Dallas, for the exceptional care and loving support they provided to Dolores and her family.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Hugh B. Hughes Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort. A Celebration of Life, officiated by Rev. Charles H. Grube, will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 474 Yalick Road, Dallas, on Jan. 10. Final respects will begin at 9 a.m., followed by church service at 10 a.m. Her family has requested a private interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dolores' name to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 474 Yalick Road, P.O. Box 802, Dallas, Pa. 18612.

Very, very saddened to learn of Dolores' passing. "One of our gang" we will very much missed. Too many remembrances to list but she and Jerry were excellent friends and outstanding people. Memories are many and each memory now seems so long ago and is a piece missing from our selves. Our most sincere condolences to all the family.
