LAFLIN — Assunta "Sue" Bellanca, 77, of Laflin, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, at her residence.
Born in Pittston on Sept. 30, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Giordano) LaMarca. She was a graduate of Pittston High School, class of 1956. Sue had worked in the local garment industry, having owned and operated family businesses LaBella Dress and Mari-Belle Bridal, Pittston for many years. Later working in quality control for Alfred Angelo, Willow Grove. She was a member of the ILGWU.
Upon retirement from the garment industry, Sue and her husband, Salvatore D. "Sam" Bellanca, owned and operated the Garden Village Italian Deli in West Pittston. They became "grandparents" to many of the neighborhood children, teenagers and young adults who were often daily patrons of "The Deli". Sue was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Parish, Laflin.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore D. "Sam" Bellanca on June 30, 2013. They were married 51 years. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Cataldo LaMarca; brother-in-law, Lloyd Maholski and nephew, Michael Policare.
Surviving are her daughter, Susan Major, of Laflin; son, Salvatore Bellanca and his wife, Maria, of Jamestown, Rhode Island; grandchildren, Erik, Devon, Ezekiel Major and Gianfranco Bellanca; sisters, Mary Policare and her husband, Dominick, of Pittston, and Rose Maholski, of Nanticoke; sister-in-law, Claire LaMarca, of Pittston, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Maria Goretti Parish, 42 Redwood Drive, Laflin. Those attending are asked to go directly to church. The bereavement group will recite the rosary half an hour hour prior to Mass. Interment, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston.

I am surely going to miss seeing Mrs B. every Sunday morning when I would hold the church door open for her. She always told me how beautiful my family is and always made me smile. Heaven gained a beautiful "Angel". Such a wonderful woman. Prayers to her family and friends.
