DALLAS - Joseph A. Monico, of Dallas, passed away Tuesday morning, March 3, 2015, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, Joe was educated in the Wilkes-Barre Area schools and was a graduate of Coughlin High School, class of 1950. He was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserves. Joe was employed by JC Penney for 37 years and spent the last 27 years at corporate headquarters in Plano, Texas, serving as a display manager.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jolaine-Mari, who passed away on Nov. 12, 2011. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Michael J. and Mary Flora Monico; and brother, Michael.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sylvia Bartosh, with whom he celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Jan. 16, 2015. In addition to his wife, Sylvia, he is survived by brothers, John Monico and his wife, Sue, Luzerne, and Anthony Monico and his wife, Kate, Hanover Township; nieces, Kristen Zellner and Michele Hoover, Lisa Lynch, Maggie Manofsky; nephews, Brian Monico, Michael Monico, Steven Monico and Anthony Monico; "special grandchildren," Joseph and Alesondra Nicol, Toms River, New Jersey.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday for Joe and his daughter, Jolaine-Mari, at Holy Family Parish, Bennett Street, Luzerne. Friends will be received at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
