Michael Fischetti Obituary

Michael Fischetti, 89, formerly of Mocanaqua, died Tuesday morning, October 21, 2008, at the home of his son where he had been staying for the past three years.
Born February 6, 1919, in Mocanaqua, he was a son of the late Michael and Mary (Rachel) Fischetti.
He served in the Army during World War II with the First Army, Co. A, 16th Division. He was a miner for 10 years in the area coal mines and then co-owned for 25 years Checko and Mike’s service station, Shickshinny. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Mocanaqua, the Mocanaqua VFW Post and a former member of the Twin Cities Lions Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, the former Loretta Novelli, who died on January 31, 2005; brothers Carmine, Donato, Anthony, John, Pascual and James; and a sister, Katie Cici.
Surviving are his son, John Fischetti, and his wife, Alice, Cogan Station; grandchildren Anthony, Michael, Gia, Robert, Marcella, Katie and Dominic; and a sister, Florence Fischetti, Mocanaqua.
Funeral services will be held Friday, 9:30 a.m., at the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary’s Church, Mocanaqua, with his priest, the Rev. Stephen A. Krawontka, as celebrant. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
