"Tootie" Fortney
75, of Dover died Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at her home. Tootie was self employed having run Tootie's Ceramics for many years. Born Sept. 8, 1935 in Canton she was a daughter of the late Edward and Alice Mansfield Erickson. Tootie was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William "Bill" Fortney who died on Oct. 10, 2003; daughter, Wendy Ann Fortney and sisters, Margaret Elaine Erickson and Janice Frank. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dover.
A loving and wonderful mother and grandmother, Tootie will be sadly missed by her children, William (Phyllis) Fortney of Navarre, Timothy Fortney and companion, Rhonda Affolter of Uhrichsville, Daniel Fortney and companion, Christine Letizia, David (Amy) Fortney, Michael (Angela) Fortney all of Dover and Joseph Fortney and companion, Jennie Mullen of Canton; daughters, Debra Tester of Columbus, Kathleen (Jerry) Kerns of Malvern, Mary Jane (Terry) Mahaffey of New Philadelphia, Melanie Fortney of Mesa, Arizona and Angela (David) Stevenson of Dover; sisters, Patricia (John) Ghezzi of North Canton, Mary Alice (Ermanno) DeDominicis of Louisville and Donna (John) Waechter of North Canton; brothers, Thomas Erickson of Mineral City and Robert Erickson of Massillon, she was also a grandmother and a great grandmother to many.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 4, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Fr. Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery at Dover. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Home and Crematory at Dover on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. with Christian Wake services starting at 7:45. Those wishing to express their fondest memories of Tootie may do so by visiting the online obituaries link on the funeral homes website. Please accept our sympathy to Tootie's family & Tootie & Bill's flea mkt. family, As the years we worked together flew by we became like a family. Our customers would come every year to visit Mr. & Mrs. Santa , the tradition would bring visitors from near & far.
