James Corey Obituary

James "Jim" R. Corey, age 60, of Dennison died Friday (March 12, 2010) in Union Hospital, Dover, following a short battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 6, 1949, a son of the late Bert Crawford and Greta Corey.
Jim graduated from high school and went on to graduate from college in Maryland. He was an avid fisherman and was one of the founders of OGF (Ohio Game and Fishing). He operated the Cripple Creek tackle and bait shop on Rt. 250 and would hold catfish tournaments at various times during the year. He was also a member of the Southern Ohio Walleye Club.
Jim was an artist and painted, he loved the out of doors and would go fishing every chance he could. He was always willing to give advice to anyone who would ask on where the fish were at certain times of the year, or when the water temperature was at a certain degree or if the water was stained or clear and where he would fish that day and what type lure or live bait to use. He was unselfish to help many an angler come home with fish or catch a trophy with that advice.
Jim is survived by his longtime significant other of 20 years, Darlene Ayers, and his faithful dog Half Pint. He is also survived by many friends who will miss him at the shop and on the waterways.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday (March 16, 2010) from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Gowins Funeral Home. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will follow the evening of viewing.
It is requested by his family that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Gowins Funeral Home to help with his funeral expenses. Gowins Funeral Home, PO Box 164, Gnadenhutten, O. 44629.

Darlene all our prayers go out to you and your family. The world will be a lesser place without Jim in it. He was one of a kind and I am proud to have known him. Heaven will hear a new voice shouting FISH ON! and all the angels will know it's Jim catching another big one. From the Pierce Family

Dear Jim all your friends are waiting at that lake full of fish, for you come give them advise , shoot the breeze, and maybe even catch some. To those who will read this,
I give my deepest sympathy. I can't say anything that will make you feel any better, except that he was one of the most unique people I have ever known and one of my favorites. Always smiling and a very intelligent man. Maybe the most knowledgeable fisherman I have ever met. I am sad to see him go. Wherever it is that we go when our time comes, I'm sure he's gone fishing. God Bless!
Sincerely,
Matt Long

Darlene and Family:
Our prayers and thoughts are with you and this difficult time. Jim & talked about getting to fish together and I guess we will do it elsewhere, another time and another place. May you be consoled in your grief by our Lord.

I barely got to know Jim, but I like others found his "presence" to be one of kind. I will never forget the time I told him to keep the $.26 of change after paying for my allotment from his overgracious minnow nets...Jim handed me the change and said "son, don't be so quick to give your money away, its too hard to earn it" Btw I was 46 at the time! We will miss you Jim.

Jim was a generous and intelligent man on so many levels. Whether it be the overflowing netloads of minnows, or limitless fishing information, he never skimped on anything. If it were not for him, my father and I would have never had the opportunity to efficiently fish so many spots on so many lakes. Those are some of the fondest memories I have of my father, and I owe them to Jim. I'll miss you, friend, and wish you and Dad great fishing on the other side.
P.S.- I still wonder, from time to time, whether, as you asked, "Saugeye keep their dentures in a jar of air?"

My husband talks highly of Jim and the many times him and his father spent fishing with Jim. I unfortunately was only able to meet Jim a few times, those few times Jim left an impression on me...he was that type of guy. A great man will be sadly missed.
