It is with great sorrow that I contemplate your grief throughout what transpired over these past several weeks not to mention in the days and years going forward. Losing Zachary is a tragedy so against the grain of what we would expect from an orderly universe. Mr and Mrs Unser we didn't know you, but my husband and I knew your son. My husband is friends with bryon and Zach and my husband became friends everytime we were in town. He always had such a wonderful smile on his face. And had a personality that was infectious. Words cannot describe how sorry we are for your loss. We wish we could be there to say our goodbyes. Jackie, how you will find closure to this I haven't a clue. I'm faced with difficulties of a lesser order and they are defeating me, yours surpass my imagination and I pray to whatever powers there are that may address them that relief shall be yours. I knew Zach only distantly as a student at Colonie and as a soccer player with my kids, but I knew him quite well as an object of your love and pride. I see from his obituary that he was a Marine and is, as he wished, an organ donor; both bespeak in significant ways how your love and pride were directed towards a worthy person. Zach touched the lives of so many. We will always cherish memories of his great smile and enthusiasm to overcome anything. My heart goes out to you Jackie, Mari and Dan. I remember all the great times we had travelling the country with Blackwatch. We were like family back then and I will always remember those great times. Whether it was during one of Steve's grueling practices or just drinking and listening to The Doors, Unser always had a knack for making me laugh. He was a great friend and he will be missed.

My heartbreaks for Zach and his family also for all the people who will never get to know him. When I had Zach in my class at 4 years old, I knew he was something special. He would make me laugh, make me angry and then make we smile. He had a very infectious smile. Those baby blue eyes would melt even the hardest person. You may never understand why this happened, but just take comfort in knowing that Zach felt the love from his first breath until his last. He left this world a true hero. Prayers sent to all of you. I did not know Zachary, but was so impressed with his obit and all his accomplishments at such a young age. I would have been proud to be his friend. My son, being in the Marines, if in this area, was the type that would have attended his funeral. Once a Marine, always a Marine. As a father from Cohoes, I am proud to sign the guest book.
