John O'Connor Obituary

O'CONNOR John J. Sr., 91, died peacefully April 6, 2012, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Encinitas, Calif. Born in New York City on November 25, 1920, he was the son of the late James and Eileen O'Connor. John attended Manhattan College and went on to serve in the Army during World War II. John held several employment positions; accounting, purchasing, audits and procurement records, residing in NYC, Washington, D.C., and Key West, Fla. His final, and longest position was that as head of audit and control for the New York State Comptroller's Office from 1962 to 1983 in Albany. John was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Rosaleen P. (Mulligan) O'Connor in 2004. John is survived by their 10 children, John (Fiona) of Hollywood, Fla., Patricia (Jim) Lane of Scottsdale, Ariz., Robert O'Connor of Slingerlands, Maureen (Dana) of Encinitas, Charles O'Connor of Altamont, Kathleen DeMarco of Guilderland, Frances O'Connor of Altamont, Daniel O'Connor of Albany, Patrick O'Connor of Albany, and Rose (Jeff) Siggia of Guilderland. In addition, there are 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. There will be a Mass to celebrate his life at Christ the King Church in Guilderland on Saturday, June 16, at 11 a.m. There will be a brief gathering in the church communal space following the ceremony. Memorial donations may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of 950 New Loudon Road, Latham, NY 12110. The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the DuPont family that loved and cared for our father for the past nine years.

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself ... any man's death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
