Spalt, George HARWICHPORT, MASS. George Spalt 87, of Harwichport and Tequesta, Fla., formerly of Loudonville, N.Y., died peacefully surrounded by family on April 21, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Spalt was born in Albany, N.Y. on September 9, 1921, graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany, attended Clarkson University and graduated from NY Maritime Academy in 1945. He served in World War II as an officer in the Merchant Marines before returning home to start a career in real estate and development. He loved boats and the ocean, and spent summers with family on Cape Cod, sailing from the Stone Horse Yacht Club. He was a member of the Schuyler Meadows Club, Fort Orange Club and the University Club of Albany where he enjoyed many lifelong friendships. George is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn for 60 years; his children, Patty and Dick Hopple of New Canaan, Conn., James and Kristen Spalt of Barnstable, Sarah and Richard Muller of Royal Palm Beach, Fla, Peter and Kara Spalt of Harwichport, Jennifer and Jack Robbie of Norwell; 21 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass to be celebrated on Saturday, April 25 at 11a.m. at Holy Trinity Church in West Harwich, Mass. Dear Splat Family,
The friends and neighbors of Riverbend will truly miss George. George contributed to the Riverbend happiness in many ways.
Upon entering our gates you see the flying bird sculpture which George purchased and let us share in. He supported a newly formed art club and help maintain our dock on the Loxahatchee River. Most of all he was a wonderful friendly neighbor. It just won't be the same around here.
