I'm just back in Vermont and heard the tragic news about Jeff. I hired him at Okemo as an instructor prior to his move to the race department. He was one of the best. He was an excellent skier as well as a competent and kind instructor. Jeff was one of the good guys - he will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Karen and all the Mallia family.

Dear Mr. Mallia and family,

We are so saddened to hear of the loss of Jeff. We shared many great memories from Peru High School days. Jeff was a true class leader, and clearly went on to lead a life of service to country and to others. Our condolences go out to you and the extended family. May Jeff's life inspire all of us to serve with grace and excellence. May God bless,

So sorry to hear of your loss. Jeff was such an inspiration to so many kids growing up at Okemo. I am certain other parents join me in remembering Jeff and the OMARA Family- coaches, families and others for touching our kids' lives during such an important time. I always reflect that in the ski world, friends along the way are always just over and on the next hill-- so with that said know The Fenskes and others are thinking of you...

At times like this, one often hears "They were larger than Life". Yea, okay. But Jeff is that very rare case where that overused phrase seems inadequate. He was that guy who every guy wanted to be. I can remember flying with him through white clouds over the Adirondacks. Upside down. Through my panic, I looked over to him and saw a quiet smile. I can only imagine that when he was landing jets on aircraft carriers, he might have had that same quiet smile. He was cool, kind, modest, a great father, husband and son, and friend. Yea, that's "Larger than Life".
