Rudy Vido Obituary

Vido, Rudy E. COLONIE Rudy E. Vido, 65, passed away on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital with his loving family by his side. Rudy was born on March 21, 1952, to the late Rudy and Lois Vido in Albany, Rudy was a graduate of Albany High School, and went on to have an illustrious sports career at S.U.N.Y. Albany in football, wrestling, and track and field. His shot-put record is still unbroken, and his 1974 season is the only year that S.U.N.Y. Albany's football team went undefeated. His accomplishments are countless, but to name a few are S.U.N.Y. Albany Hall of Fame, the Greater Capital District Football Hall of Fame, and he was the first UAlbany player to be signed as a free agent for the New England Patriots. Most important to him was coaching his son and daughter in Colonie Pop Warner football and cheerleading. Rudy worked as a neurobehavioral director for Millview T.B.I. Program. Rudy will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend. His passion in life was his family and helping others. He will be greatly missed. Rudy is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Lee Vido; his children, Shannon Stanton, Brittany Vido, and Tyler Vido; and his sister, Toni Cerulli. Rudy also leaves behind his football family of over 40 years, and all of his friends, co-workers, and clients at Millview T.B.I. Program. Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, on Friday, April 21, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m. Burial will be held in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie. Rudy was a fixture at the Delaware Albany Boys' Club, first as a member then as part of the staff, working with Pete Christopher. Rudy was a gentle giant among the kids. Rudy left a sports legacy at Albany High as well. I didn't have a lot of exposure to Rudy, because I send most of my time at the Livingston Club, but when I did, he always had a huge smile on his face.

RIP fellow AHS football, and track athlete, and Boys' Club kid.

I just learned of Rudy´s passing. My deepest condolences to his family. Rudy was the most gifted and respected natural athlete I´d ever met. I was glad not to have had to compete against him. He was a genuine humble gentleman who had a reputation that the local bullies wouldn´t dare test. He had a presence like no other. Unparalleled. A good man. May he forever Rest In Peace.

My condolences and sympathies to the Vido family. I was very sorry to hear of Rudys passing from my good freind Dave Stewart. Rudy was a coach, mentor, and a positive influence in my life . While playing football at Albany High School during the 1975 to 1977 season, It was Rudy who encouraged and assisted me in getting accepted to SUNY Albany that ultimately resulted in my graduating from SUNY Buffalo with a Bachelors degree. My life has been the better because of his leadership and caring attitude for me and all the aspiring athletes . Thank you Rudy for caring enough to assist and mentor! You will be missed.

Rudy was a great friend. We were in Potter Club together at SUNY. He brought an Issac Hayes album to my room to console me when I was turned down for a beer party date. RIP

I knew Rudy through his work at Millview TBI program. He was a strong advocate, dedicated, responsive and caring. He was a big guy who wore his heart on his sleeve! I had not seen him in many years and I'm so sad to hear of his passing. His spirit will live on in the lives of the people he touched- he truly was larger than life!

My sincere condolences to the Vido family. I knew Rudy when I was around 10 years old. He worked part time for my Dad at Rice Paddy and Bitter End on Fuller Road. I remember trying out for the Albany Spartans 2 years in a row and was cut because I didn't weigh enough. Rudy was playing basketball at Hoffman park that day and I told him I was cut. He said the same thing happened to him when he was young. He said he was cut because he was too heavy. He told me to try out again next year. Don't quit. I made the team the following year. (by 1 pound) I was lucky to know Rudy growing up in Albany. Always encouraging . He lived a meaningful life. God Bless you and your family.

I hadn't seen Rudy in many years, as we all seem to go in different directions as we get older, but I was shocked and saddened to read of his passing. Rudy was certainly a great athlete, but an even greater person, as I'm sure most that knew him would attest. My sincere condolences to the Vido family.
RIP, Rudy, I was lucky to have known you.

Growing up on Delaware ave and hanging at Hoffman park back in the 60s and 70s it was hard not to know who Rudy Vido was. My last name is Vita and all my life when someone heard my name they would say are related to Rudy. I never got to meet him personally but always looked up to him . It's very surreal but I will this man that I never had the pleasure to meet.

My sympathy to all the family and friends of Rudy Vito. Rudy and I were classmates at Hackett Jr. High and Albany High. For one of the biggest and strongest kids in school, he could have been a bully but was on of the friendliest and easy going guys in the whole school. I was in Albany High track and he threw that shot-put like one who throws a softball. One of the best athletes in school I ever saw. A good person we all will miss. BC - Albany High Class of 1970

I have known Rudy since the we were at the Albany YMCA in the 1950's. I also had the honor of coaching football at SUNY and watching him propel those Teams to victory. Rudy spiritual strength far surpassed his athletic accomplishments. His love for Family and Friends is legendary. I will never forget his spirit and his great laugh. My thoughts and prayers to the Family and thanks for sharing Rudy with us all.

Heartbroken and thankful at the same time. So grateful that I was able to share so many memories and milestones with Rudy and Brittany over the years. I cannot think of a single Pop Warner or High School event that does not include Rudy. Thank you for your friendship, the laughs, and the tears. Gone way too soon, my friend. You will be missed deeply. RIP. Marianne and Joe

To the Vido family, very sadden by the lost of a good friend. My first year with the football Mallers , Rudy took me under his wings. I certainly enjoyed when Rudy came to watch me play baseball before joining the Mallers...good devoted friend.

The Vido family,
I'm so sorry to hear and read about Rudy's passing. I officiated a number of his games both at Albany High and the Albany Metro Mallers. I ran into Rudy last year at the Capital District Football Hall of Fame dinner and we had a nice conversation. Rudy was a top notch guy who will be sorely missed by all. I will be saying prayers for Rudy and may he rest in peace.

Rudy,
Shocked and sadness is all I felt when I heard the news this morning. We have such a history together. The "Campito" Brothers - always kidding that "mom always loved you best"! How can it be that two total strangers end up with the two same football teams - Toronto and New England... and end up so close for so many years. How many running backs and quarterbacks did we crush together?? How many road trips and endless nights talking, laughing, partying and even crying sometimes. You will always be close to my heart.
To your family -while I have never met you, your husband and father was a great, great person. He was a gentle and kind "man child" who would do anything for a friend. Always quick to laugh and always there with a helping hand. I have seen many physically strong men in my time. Nobody and I mean NOBODY ever had the natural strength, speed and quickness that "The Doctor" possessed. I regret that we lost contact over the years but I have always considered him one of my closest friends. God bless you Rudy as well as your family. I am a better man for having known you and a very lucky man for having had you in my life. Rest In Peace

It is a sad day, for sure, when a friend passes on. But my sorrow leads me to happier times with Rudy...Elm St., the Boy's Club, Delaware Ave., The Nook, The Rice Paddy, 4-on-4 basketball with "Moses Funchess" and certainly, the football years. There are many memories from our early years...But it's today and memories aside, I want to offer my sincerest condolences to Rudy's family, co-workers and to all the people he's touched along the way.
Rest in Peace Brother knowing you've done your best and that you made a difference.

Many a times I met Rudy on the football field at Bleeker Stadium and Watertown High when he played for the Albany Metro Mallers and I played for the Watertown Red and Black and although he was a fierce competitor he still was a good friend after the games and we even had some times laughing after each play we hit heads...heck, Shaun Brady, our QB, would tell Rudy that i was getting the ball and what side of the center I was running the ball...couldn't believe it, but we all would laugh and start all over again for the next play...rest in peace, Rudy, and my sincere condolences to the entire Vido family and friends...

This is such a sad loss for our Colonie Pop Warner family. Rudy was a gentle giant who will be remembered by all as a dedicated football coach for Tyler and a just as dedicated "cheer dad" to Brittany. Rudy's contribution to the youth of Colonie Pop Warner will never be forgotten and he will be missed by our CPW family.

My sympathy and condolences to Rudy's family. Many fond memories from Babe Ruth days, high school and college. He was the gentle Giant of a man! Remembering his kindness and friendship today, to everyone whom he met. Also, riding in his blue VW beetle listening to Soul Sacrifice by Santana- on his 8 track. Love you, brother. Peace be with you. Tom (T-bone) Barron
