William Kane Obituary

Kane, William J. "Bill" TROY William J. Kane (Bill), 87, died peacefully at Samaritan Hospital on Thursday, December 1, 2011 in the comfort of his family. He was the husband of 61 years to Barbara Durand Kane. Born and raised in Troy, he was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Kane; brother of the late Jean Kane Sorensen and Richard Kane. He is survived by eight children, Paul (Verna) Zapp of Saratoga, Nancy (John) Beach of Clifton Park, Marylou (Thomas) Lesniak of Clifton Park, Candice Kane Weyand of Clifton Park, Virginia (John) Bradley of Charleston, S.C., Karen (Gary) Berger of Troy, William (Rose) Kane of Wynantskill, James Kane of Grafton; his grandchildren, Ian Zapp, Erika Martinez, Kyle Done, Ryan Done, Gabrielle DeMarco, Todd Done, Kelli Sack, Shanna Lesniak, Nicholas Lesniak, Hadley Boone, Matthew Weyand, Andrew Weyand, Sara Moore, Marisa Moore, Alex Moore, Joshua Berger, Jordan Berger, William Kane, Brittany Kane; great-grandchildren, Liam Martinez, Amanda Done, Brandon Done, Karleigh Sack, Kaleigh Sack, Meena Done, Jackson Done, William DeMarco and Georgia DeMarco. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mr. Kane was educated in Troy and was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving his country during World War II, participating in the invasion of Normandy as a salvage diver. He was employed for 40 years at Behr-Manning/Nashua in Watervliet, as well as part-time bartender at the legendary Uncle George's in Troy. Some of the more important things to Bill throughout his life was the joy of spending summers at the ocean in Maine with his family and friends, trips to Disney World with his children and grandchildren, watching horse racing at Saratoga, rooting for his favorite sports teams, especially the Yankees, watching football on his big screen TV with his sons, but most of all spending time with his family. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 5 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Augustine's Church in Troy, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday, December 4 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Frank P. McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 870 Second Ave. (124th and 125th Streets), Troy. Interment with full military honors will be in St. John's Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions be made in Bill's memory to: STRIDE/Wounded Warrior Program, 476 N. Greenbush Rd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
