Aurelia Aiossa Obituary

Aiossa, Aurelia M. ALBANY Aurelia Margaret Aiossa, 71, was freed from her suffering on Sunday, October 17, 2010 with her brother and children by her side. Although now vanished from this impermanent sphere, she will live on in the memories and dreams of those she leaves behind. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Margaret (Maloy) Aiossa and mother of Louis Del Giacco and Margaret Aiossa, both of Albany. She is also survived by her devoted brother, Peter (Mary Pat) Aiossa of Albany; her beloved granddaughter, Ava Aurelia; and her nieces and nephews Louis (Jennifer) Aiossa, Maria (Brian) Dyer, Patricia Aiossa, Christina Aiossa and their children. Mention must be made of the immense fondness she possessed for her irascible Chow-German Sheppard hybrid, Baxter. Aurelia attended the Kenwood Academy of the Sacred Heart and received a bachelor's degree from Siena College. Despite the difficulties inflicted by her multiple sclerosis, she had a long and varied career focused on the service of others and her community. She was an instructor at the St. Anne Institute in Albany, where she served as the faculty director of a student newspaper awarded first place in a journalism contest by the Columbia School of Journalism in 1964. Additionally, she worked as a narcotics parole officer in New York City, for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Albany, and for the New York State Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, from which she retired in 1991. Aurelia loved music, poetry and literature and was fond of quoting from her favorite authors, particularly Shakespeare. The substance of a life cannot be fairly or accurately related in an abbreviated notice such as this; it must necessarily fail to convey the immense character, humor, kindness, devotion, indomitable will and courage she displayed throughout her life. Aurelia was much more than the positions she held, the family she leaves behind, or the illness with which she was afflicted. The mornings will no longer be as bright; the colors will be muted, deprived of all vibrancy. The family would like to thank her neurologist, Dr. Lawrence Corbett, for his years of diligent care and compassion, and her former aide, Krystal. Funeral services Thursday, October 21, 2010 at 9:45 a.m. from the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to the Parish of Mater Christi, Albany at 10:30 a.m. where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Wednesday, October 20, 2010 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Those wishing to remember Aurelia in a special way may send a contribution to the Center for Multiple Sclerosis at Albany Medical Center College, 47 New Scotland Ave. Albany, NY 12208. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Peter and Family,
I have very fond memories of times spent with you and your family. The best memory was cruising up the I87 to Lake George in her white convertible with the 45rpm record player blasting out the days latest rock tunes. I love you all and will never forget Aurelia.
With love, Marmee
