I just wish that Andy was now a fellow emeritus (although there would be no guarantee that he would retire this soon).

Only a small handful of faculty from your time are still in the department, Andy, I'm sure that they, along with retirees like me, are still saddened at your passing. My continued condolences to Joann and Katie.

I was a student of Dr. Haas in the late 90's, and thoroughly enjoyed his classes. He made you think and he was passionate about what he taught. I always appreciated his willingness to assist students and vividly remember the unique chair he used to have in his office. Thank you for helping me get through some difficult classes!

It is because of Prof Haas suggession or advise I left SUNY Albany inorder to search for jobs. Prof. Haas asked me to send a card to him and Prof. Ravi whenever I find a job. He was so kind and always wanted to help me so asked me to approach for any new job or internship opportunities from Prof. Ravi. I very much wanted to take his course compiler design but because of one of my chinese friend Lee stopped me from taking that course. Looking back I feel very bad for not taking such an interesting course given by him. We all miss him even though I took only one class in 511 course.

Andy advised my very first research project back in 1990. He was such an interesting, and often humorous guy! He inspired many people over the years, including me. My condoleances to his family, and to his extended family in the UAlbany CS department.
