Barbara G. "Bobbie" Ermides

Ermides, Barbara G. "Bobbie" GUILDERLAND Barbara "Bobbie" G. Ermides, 75, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with lung cancer surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at her home in Guilderland. She was born on July 13, 1938 in Troy to the late Peter G. Giftos, grew up with her loving sisters, Matina Ziamandanis (John) and Anastasia Tunny (the late James), and graduated from Albany Academy for Girls in 1955. After graduating from Katharine Gibbs School of Boston in 1957, she married her high school sweetheart Constantine J. Ermides "Gus" on June 12, 1960 at Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Albany. She worked for many years at radio station WPTR, took time off to raise her family, then owned and operated Westmere News and Variety for several years. She went to work for the American Red Cross for many years before retiring, where she was dedicated to her position, and was recognized for her exceptional service with a prestigious award. Upon retiring, she and Gus spent their winters in Cocoa Beach, Fla. where she shared many laughs, happy hours, and sun-filled days with her loving friends. She is survived by her husband, Constantine J. Ermides "Gus" of Guilderland; her sons, Dean Ermides of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Peter Ermides of New York City, Christopher Ermides of Saratoga Springs (spouse Beverly Tracy Ermides); her grandchildren, TJ and Josh Tracy; her sisters, nephews and nieces, and aunt, Hanthy Giftos, as well as many loving family and friends who will dearly miss her sense of humor and generous spirit. Funeral service will be Monday, August 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 440 Whitehall Road, Albany. Relatives and friends are also invited to call at Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Ave., Albany, Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. A Trisagion service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany. The family would like to thank Hospice, as well as the doctors and nurses at New York Oncology and Hematology for their kindness and generous support.
