Bernard Hurewitz Obituary

Hurewitz, Bernard COCONUT CREEK, Fla. Bernard Hurewitz passed away on Monday, October 28, 2013 in Coconut Creek with his family by his side. Bernard was born on December 25, 1923 in New York City to Sam and Rose Hurewitz. A child of the Depression, Bernie learned to fix anything with a craftman's eye and skill, and a pocket knife. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and with the help of the GI Bill and his devoted wife, became first a draftsman and later a mechanical engineer. Bernie worked at Grumman on the projects to build the F-14 Tomcat and the Lunar Excursion Module (LEM). In his leisure time, and later when retired, he was master craftsman, building furniture, stained glass and jewelry and repairing watches and clocks. Bernie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marylin; his children, Perin Hurewitz and Jay Hurewitz; his niece, Phyllis Friedenthal; their spouses, Harriet Kirk, Gail Skapik-Hurewitz, and Martin Friedenthal; his granddaughter, Lena Hurewitz; and his grandnephew, Andrew Friedenthal.
