ANTONIO BARNES Obituary

BARNES We are honored to celebrate the life of Antonio Tony Barnes, who passed away at age 45 on June 3rd, 2011 from complications of lung disease. Tony was born on December 23, 1965 in Goldsboro, NC to Lizzie Mae Barnes, who died shortly after his birth. Tony has an amazing childhood story too long to detail here. Suffice it to say, he felt blessed and was grateful to his foster families who raised him until he joined the Army at age 18. Tony was married twice, first to Rhonda Hyden, and later to Jackie Blades. The last 11 years of his life were spent with his loving partner, Norma Asbury, whom he affectionately called My wife, Redd. Tony has two children by birth, Melanie Barnes of Brooklyn, NY, and Antonio Barnes of the home. Through his bond with Norma, he was father to three boys, Christopher Asbury, Travis Asbury, and Austin Asbury, all of the home. Tony's immediate family includes sisters Cynthia Ross and Arlene Hall, and brothers Willie Barnes and Keith McClearn. His extended foster family includes Daddy Hezzie Mitchell, sisters Gloria Stewart, Denise McClendon, nieces Lorrinda Stewart, Diane Stewart, Jamie Stewart, nephew Shorne Stewart, and cousin John Hodges. He was preceded in death by his foster parents, Grace and Edward Fleming. Memorial service, with military honors will be held Friday, June 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Rivermead Funeral Home, 127 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, FL, 32073, with Hospice Chaplain James Pop Williams officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32257. Thinking about you and praying for you

Sean & Toni Glase

September 12, 2011

To the close family & friends of Tony Barnes, we extend our deepest sympathy to each of you. I was told of Tony's passing this morning and was truly saddened by the news. We met Tony when he was married to his 2nd wife, Jackie (Navy mate of my husband's) We've remained friends with both parties over the years. Tony was a really nice person to everyone he met. He was also a greeaat!! fisherman...While it had been a while since we've seen each other, anytime we'd run into one another, it was like old times...To Norma & family, may GOD bless you & heal your heart of the pain of losing your loved one. We hope the memories you've made with him, makes you as grateful to have been in his prescence, as it makes us.
Sincerely,

Helen Stewart

I am so sorry to hear about Tony. He was my brother in law but before that he was a great friend...we had many laughs together. Since his move to Florida we had been out of touch but I will always have fond memories of him.

Tony was an awesome guy! He was my work uncle he helped me get through training and keep it together he always had a smile on his face and warm words of encouragement. In my short time knowing him he made a great positive impact on my life I cried when I heard this. Tony would check on me when I was absent from work due to illness and I thought that was so nice of him he will truly be missed and I am glad to have known him. He was so smart I admired him so much. I didn't have many good examples of a great man in my life and even if for a short time there was a reason god put me in the training class with Tony and gods plan worked because now not only did I get to meet one of the greatest examples of a great man but I also know they exist. Thank you Tony Rest in peace greatly missed pray I can thank you in person in heaven some day.

Norma- I am devastated about not being able to be there. I can't express my sympathy enough. Tony was one Great Man!!!!I know it's easy to say but try to stay strong, he may be gone physically but is with you and everyone everyday. As they say he is in a better place.
Little Tony will live in his honor :) "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened."

It was a pleasure having Tony on my team and working with him. He was excellent dealing with people and fixing the problems they were having with their service. He always had a smile and could find a humorous moment from each call. Along with being big in stature he was also a big presence on the team. Although his voice is quieted, and he leaves an empty desk behind, his legacy will continue and he will be missed very much. My prayers go with you in this time of sorrow, may you find comfort by the Holy Spirit, and the peace of God be upon you.
