ELGIN BARNES Obituary

BARNES Elgin J.R. Barnes, 85, a resident of Macclenny, Florida passed away June 7, 2011 at the V.A. Medical Center Lake City, Florida. Mr. Barnes was a lifelong resident of Macclenny, Florida and is the son of the late Lynn Adair and Effie Mae Thrift Barnes. He is preceded in death by his brother, Elmer L. Barnes. He was in the U.S. Army serving during WW II and is a charter member of the WW II Museum in New Orleans, LA.. He was awarded the American French Legion of Honor, Knighted as chevalier of French Legion of Honor, a lifetime member of the veteran of foreign wars, life member of the military order of the Purple Heart chapter 772, Lake City, Florida. He was wounded in France after D-Day where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Spear-Huxford genealogy Society and a life member of the Baker County Historical Society. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Macclenny, Florida. Survivors include his wife of sixty-three years, Dorothy Barnes, Macclenny, Fl. One daughter: Amelia Ann Barnes (Kurt) Kraus, Macclenny, Fl. Three sons: Gregory L. Barnes, Martinsville, LA., Ward P. (Mary) Barnes, Wake, Virginia and Patrick T. (Marta) Barnes, Macclenny, Fl. One sister: Barbara Jean (Randolph) Chisholm, Macclenny, Fl. Five Grandchildren, Six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be conducted Friday June 10, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. in the First United Methodist Church, Macclenny, Fl. with the Rev. Tom Pope, officiating. Interment will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday June 9, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
