LILLIS WEBER Obituary

WEBER Lillis A. Weber b: September 22, 1936 d: January 21, 2013 After a bout of pneumonia and a long battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease, Lillis A. Weber died on January 21, 2013. Lillis loved to play with numbers. They jumped around in her head like a circus clown. As a high school math teacher first in Georgia, then in Virginia, New Jersey, and later Florida, she made little tunes and funny rhymes that helped her students remember important math rules and she had a lot of fun doing it. In her spare time, she loved to shop. There wasn't a sale within a 50-mile radius that Lillis didn't find. She could smell a bargain anywhere and was rather proud of that fact. When she wasn't shopping, she was sewing. She made clothes, drapes, and slipcovers-anything that needed some pretty fabric. It made her feel useful as well as thrifty and it gave her a sense of accomplishment. Lillis, born Lillias Ann Jane Gibson in suburban Toronto, Canada on September 22, 1936, prided herself with her wit and intelligence. She skipped two grades and attended the University of Pittsburgh at the tender age of 16. That's where she met her late husband, John M. Weber, Sr. Ironically, the two met when Lillis went to John seeking extra help in calculus. She passed the final exam with flying colors. He, unfortunately, flunked and had to take the course again in summer school. They both graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in June 1956 and subsequently married that August. By November 1957, Lillis renounced her Canadian citizenship and became a naturalized U.S. citizen with her name officially changed from its original spelling. Lillis is predeceased by her father, Frederick Saunders Gibson, and her mother, Ann Fleming Henderson Young. Her husband, John M. Weber, Sr., passed away in December 2011. She leaves behind her daughter, Debora Weber-Wulff of Berlin, Germany, her son, Keith Weber of Houston, Texas, and her son, John Jr. of Fairfield, Connecticut. She also leaves her four grandchildren, Rade Wulff and Kaye, Suzanna, and Norah Weber. A memorial service is planned for Lillis at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, Connecticut in February. Plans for her cremains to be laid to rest next to her husband in Butler, Pennsylvania will take place in the summer. The family requests a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in lieu of flowers.
