Michael Glenn Obituary

GLENN Michael Glenn passed away peacefully on December 16th, 2010, in Montrose, Colorado, at the age of 69. Mike was born in Texas and grew up in Maryland and Massachusetts, where he attended Boston Latin School and Arlington High School. After graduation he attended Franklin and Marshall College in Pennsylvania, graduating with a BA in business. Later he attended George Washington University, where he earned an MS in management engineering, and Ed.S and Ed.D degrees in training and development. Dr. Glenn taught for many years as an adjunct professor for George Washington and other universities in the Mid-Atlantic States. Mike joined the US Navy and was commissioned an Ensign in 1964. Mike saw duty in Kodiak, Alaska, Hunters Point, California, and aboard the USS Midway. After the Navy he worked in the federal Civil Service as a Human Resource Management and Organization Development Specialist in Norfolk, Virginia. Next he went to work as the Director of Training at the NASA Langley Research Facility in Hampton, Virginia. Mike retired from federal service at NASA and worked for a number of years as an independent contractor for numerous management consulting organizations, eventually being sent to the Jacksonville, Florida, area to head up a new office. Mike was a lifelong yachtsman, starting with his first boat named Moter, named after his mother Norma, and ending with a beautiful 44' CSY named the Quintessence. He sailed all his life, and loved the wind and water, first and foremost. Mike is survived by his wife Wendie Mayfield of Jacksonville, Florida, his son Rob of San Diego, California, and two siblings, Laurie Lawson of Kingman, Arizona, and Gary Glenn of Novato, California. Mike was preceded in his death by his parents, Robert and Norma Glenn. Friends and family will fondly remember him for his passion for the sea and his calm demeanor under the most adverse circumstances. Mike's remains will be scattered to the wind and water outside of San Diego California. Everyone wishes that he REST IN PEACE with FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS.
