WILLIAM KAISER Obituary

KAISER William Bill Kaiser passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 13, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, which he fought without complaint. He is survived by his loving family- wife, Helene (Shaw) Kaiser; children, Kathy, Greg (Marda), Glen, Rick (Ruth), Joe and Tim; grandchildren, Daryl (Jamie), Grant, Brooke (O'Neil), Lauren and Todd; great granddaughter, Jayda, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was born to William and Florence (Wagner) Kaiser on May 13, 1923, in Alpena, Michigan. With nine siblings on the scene, his life was never dull, yet still he wished for some excitement and challenge. He would soon get his wish. World War II broke out, and Bill joined the Navy. He left Michigan and entered the Sunshine State a short time later. His first duties were clerical but he was soon accepted to Flight Training School. In the interim he was married, and after completing a four year commitment in the Navy, received an honorable discharge and settled in Florida. He took a job working for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company where he remained for 38 years and then retired. Bill enjoyed traveling, which included cruises to the Caribbean and visits to western Europe, but he loved home most of all, where he had a wonderful and fulfilling life. He will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. It was often said if Bill can't fix it, it can't be fixed! He was a man of his word, always patient, and a joy to be around. Although Bill's journey on earth is over, he now rests in God's loving arms. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Bill's family will receive friends, one hour prior to the Celebration of the Mass which will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 18th at San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Road, in Jacksonville. Interment will follow the services in Oaklawn Cemetery. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com

He was a wonderful Dad! He worked two jobs to support us all and yet, when he came home from the paper route, he fixed us all breakfast while our mom took a shower and got the laundry ready. He was absolutely focused on his kids being ready for school--hot breakfast, coffee (mostly milk) if it was cold. Nothing was as important as doing well in school. When we got home and he came home from his job as insurance salesman--he never failed to be willing to play with us in the backyard. I, as the oldest and only girl with 5 brothers, NEVER heard the words ..You can't do that because you are a "girl". He let me work with him on all kinds of projects. He insisted that I read the newspaper daily so that I could argue politics with him based on "facts"! I was a liberal & he was a conservative so that was the touch pad of our political arguments. Once I even hit him in the stomach because he was laughing at me. He laughed even harder. He never bragged about any of his past accomplishments--a Golden Gloves Champion, a student who overcame both starting late in high school and entering the Navy yet graduating on time. Being sent to University so he could become a pilot --with the end of the war and my mother being pregnant with me, he was discharged honorably. A total family man with 6 children, his focus was always on his family's success. When he got to meet my stepson Seque at 14, he told me to stand aside as Seque was going to become a man and needed to know how to change a tire--truer words!! With our granddaughter Renee he was loving and funny, the way he was with us. One time when we visited him, he wore a live lizard as an ear ring while Renee screamed with delight. So humorous YES, Caring YES, tough YES, and definitely loving. He died in my arms on the morning of his 88th birthday & I was so grateful to have had that last moment with him. Rest In Peace!!

Dad was born at home on Friday, May 13th, 1923. He died exactly 88 years later, in his own home, on Friday, May 13th, 2011. He waited for my sister, Kathy to arrive before he passed.
He was the most unselfish, loving, and devoted father. I will miss him so much! May God Bless his soul throughout eternity.

Dear Rick,

I was so sorry to hear about your dad. Having lost both of my parents, I know how it feels to lose them. I didn't find out until after the funeral or I would have been there. Just know that I am thinking of you and all the Kaisers during this difficult time.

My dad died in my arms, he was relieved to have his struggles over. He was a tremendous dad and my partner Cheryl and our granddaughter Renee Harrison loved him deeply and cherished our annual visits to see him. His sense of humor and of family were great gifts he gave to those who loved him. I want to acknowledge the tremendous care provided by hospice during his last months and thank Sister Anne for her help.
