My Grandad, just "grandad" to me, but formally know as "Grandad Billy" for my family was a remarkable man who left an everlasting impression on me and my family. He´d give the "most interesting man in the world" a run for his money, having many successes over a myriad of life events. While I wish he had known my daughter, she was 1 1/2 when he died, and my wife Anna, my son mentions him often, giving credit to his current sports success and athletic physique to Grandad Billy´s genes. He was a man´s man, in best possible way, but with the humility and grace of a gentleman. All I know is that I wish my grandad was still here.

Memories of my dad who passed away 9 years ago next week.

I was in the Forrest High group the first day it was open. I can still see Mr. Parker and his big grin as the doors opened. My Mother, Cordia Perry was active in the PTA and other school projects. Mr. Parker was stern, but fair and I had nothing but the best thoughts about him. He did so much for all and never asked for anything but your best. He will always be remembered fondly.

Mr. Parker was the first Principal at Forrest, I had the pleasure of being there for the 1959 through 1963 years being a lazy student. I always thought he was one of the fairest people I knew and admired him greatly. We are missing a good man and leader.

Patty,
I'm so sorry to hear of your father's passing. I liked and admired him very much. He taught me a lot when I was a young boy. I'm sorry I didn't hear about his death in time to attend his funeral. You have my deepest sympathy.

To the family of Billy Parker ~ I know this is late in coming; I just found out of the passing of Billy. I first knew Billy when he was Dean of Boys at Andrew Jackson in the late 50's when I was a student there. He surely knew, back then, how to handle some of those "off the wall" male students in a nice but firm way. In later years we met again when Billy was on the School Board and I became employed in Personnel. Everyone was crazy about Mr Parker because he was one of the nicest and kindest person you would ever want to meet! My sincere sympathy to all of the family. I know he will truly be missed!! God Bless! Maryann

I am sorry for Richard's loss. We seem to remember all that is past when the loss of a parent happens. All the things you have said and done through the years. The best things though are the good memories and how they happened.

Mrs Parker and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Parker, I have never met you, but I have heard Billy speak fondly about you, when I was legal counsel for the School Board, from 1985 to 1992. When Billy retired from the School Board, given his lifetime service, I wondered what the school system would do without Billy Parker's input and counsel. Now I wonder what Jacksonville will do without Billy Parker. He was a great educator and administrator and will be sorely missed.

Mr. Parker was my principal all my years at Forrest High School...1959-1962. I was then and still now so proud that this wonderful man was our principal. It was always great to see him at our reunions and alumni lunches and how he always made each of us feel like he remembered us; and what a welcoming smile he always had for us. Forrest High school alumni will always remember him with pride and thank him for all he did for our wonderful school. One of the greatest men ever, Mr. Billy Parker, RIP.

Mr. Parker was our Principal at NB Forrest High School from the beginning. He was a wonderful, friendly man. He has attended some of our alumni luncheons and we thoroughly enjoyed his company. I don't think he ever met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He is definitely in a better place.

Virtually thousands of young lives were touched by Mr. Parker. Firm, but fair, he never asked one of us to do anything he, himself would not and most of the time was doing the task already. Nathan Bedford Forrest High School was successful in the 50's and 60's because of Billy Parker's leadership. God grant you peace and rest Mr. Parker, you fought the good fight and ran the race to the end. Thank you for what you taught us, by the way you lived and the level of achievement you expected from us.

Billy spent a lifetime serving his family, his country, and the countless students whom he enriched in the public schools. When Forrest Jr.-Sr. High School opened on Wesconnett Boulevard, Billy set out it to make it the pride of the Westside and I, as a 7th grader, called him my principal for the next six years. His influence inspired me to become a teacher, and it was Billy who hired me to teach when I graduated college. I know I am not alone in saying his influence changed and directed the course of my life, and I can think of no greater honor than to say to his family to find some comfort in his amazing and successful career. While he will be missed, more importantly he will be remembered.

Dearest Joanne, How blessed Billy was to have you as his wonderful wife through the years. So many great memories being with the two of you on golfing getaways, cruising to the Bahamas, and gin rummy games lasting for hours. Even though we have been apart in the past several years, I have and will always consider it a privilege to be called a friend to both of you, Much love, Beverly Brandenburger

Those of us who attended Forrest will always fondly remember our principal Billy Parker. He was a leader when the school system lost accreditation in the 1960s and during the move from Wesconnett to Firestone Rd (our brand new school!). We were honored to have him attend our 40th reunion.

When I ran for the School Board, Billy was an invaluable help, and even contributed to my campaign. His first interest was always the good of the students, and he demonstrated that in many ways. Jacksonville has lost a good man.

My prayers are with and for you. Mr. Parker was a great infuence in my personal life. When Forrest was trying to attain accreditation he would always tell us to stop and pick up any litter we saw. He started me on a lifetime of "picking up trash" and recycling. EVERY time I bend over to pick up something I think of him. He will be missed. Forrest, Class of 1970
