HARD Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com Mr. Carl Warren Hard, age 85, beloved husband of the late Bette Clayton Hard of Amelia Island, passed away on Wednesday evening, January 1, 2014 at The Retreat of Osprey Village. Born in Chicago, IL, he was the only son and the youngest of two children born to the late Carl and Corrinne Larsen Hard. As a child of 10 years of age, he was found to possess a gift of music. He grew up in Chicago and was a graduate of Fenger High School, Class of 1946. During high school, he was sought after to perform and play in various venues around the Chicago area. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and played in the Navy Band. After being honorably discharged, he, his wife and son moved from Philadelphia and later to Flushing, Queens, NY. He was a graduate of the Manhatten School of Music where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music. In 1959, as Mr. Hard began playing on Broadway, the family moved to Leonia, NJ where his daughter was born while providing a small town atmosphere in which to raise a family and a short commute to his 30 years of work on Broadway. Warren , (We never called him "Carl" ) and I were cousins, he being 5 or 6 yrs younger than I. We frequently played together in West Pullman, in the far south side of Chicago. We lived about 3 miles apart, every summer one of us moved to the other's home. Then in 1945, Martha and I were greatly flattered by having Warren lead his 4 piece band at our wedding celebration . "One meatball" was a favorite tune in those days of meat rationing.
We visited one another with our gorgeous wives in Massachusssets and in Leonia, NJ. After Warren and Julia moved to Florida, Martha and I had an enjoyable time visiting them in Atlanta.
Warren was a perfect gentleman, greatly respected by
all his acquaintances and fellow professionals. With great respect, Norman Phillips
