Howard Russell Fancher

1920 - 2015

FANCHER Mr. Howard Russell Fancher, 94, born Dec. 7, 1920, and entered peacefully into eternity Tuesday (Sept. 22, 2015). Howard was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, graduating from Ben Davis High School. He served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. He spent his career working in the Department of Defense, and upon retirement, became a much-loved school bus driver in the DeKalb County School System. Howard served faithfully as a Scoutmaster for more than 20 years and was very proud that all four of his sons attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was a member of Skyland United Methodist Church. Howard loved his family and joyfully embraced life and its adventures. He will be missed by all who knew him. He was pre-deceased by wife Gertrude Ramey Fancher, parents John & Hazel Fancher, brothers Richard, Herald, and William, and sister Dorothy. He is survived by sons: Darrell (Carol) of Jacksonville, FL; Lance (Sherrie) of Vero Beach, FL; Eric (Pam) of Lawrenceville, GA; and Derwin (Carol) of Lake Wylie, SC., 5 grandchildren: Barron, Adam, Emily, Erica and Bailee, sister Ruth Sipe, brother Dale, and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday (Sept. 28, 2015) at Oakland Cemetery in Waycross, GA to celebrate his life. Arrangements by Music Funeral Home, Waycross, GA.
