James Gerber Obituary

James E. "Jimmy" Gerber, 66, of 132 William Lane, Lehighton, passed away Monday April 22, in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Dianne M. (Schleicher) Gerber. They were married for 11 years last Oct. 4.
Prior to retiring, he was a postal carrier for the U.S. Service.
Born in Andreas, he was a son of the late Calvin and Margaret (Fink) Gerber.
A graduate of Tamaqua High School, he later served our country with the U.S. Air Force in Brindisi, Italy, during the Vietnam War, where he earned the rank of Sergeant in the 6917th Security Group. While in Italy, he played for the All European Baseball Team which took two championships.
He attended Dinkey Memorial Evangelical Lutheran Church, Ashfield, and was a member of the American Legion Post 314, Lehighton.
A dedicated sports enthusiast, he loved playing baseball, playing in the men's golf league at the Mahoning Valley Country Club and shooting darts in the Tamaqua/Schuylkill/Carbon Dart leagues. He played baseball in the Lehigh Valley Senior Men's Baseball League for over 35 years. In his younger years, he loved to go rabbit and deer hunting.
Surviving in addition to his widow are a son Jeremy, and his wife, Dawn, of Avondale, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Autumn Graver, and her companion, Sean, of Lehighton; three stepsons, Christopher Graver, and his wife, Bridget, of Center Valley, Justin Graver, and his wife, Jamie, of Walnutport, and Jordon Graver, and his companion, Tabatha, of Lansford; a brother Donald, and his wife, Sandra, of Brockton; three sisters, Marion Kintz, Elaine, wife of Robert Correll, and Jane, wife of Arnold Fritz, all of Lehighton; seven grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Service: Celebration of Life service 6 p.m. Friday, April 26, Dinkey Memorial Lutheran Church, 1742 Dinkey Rd. Ashfield, with the Rev. Anthony P. Pagotto officiating, followed by interment with full military honors in the church cemetery, under the direction of the Lehighton Area UVO. Call 4-6 p.m. Friday in the church. Contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Soc., 33 W. Ridge St., Lansford, Pa. 18232. Arrangements by Andrew P. Ovsak Funeral Home, Fourth and Iron streets, Lehighton.
