Nandor Darvas Obituary
Nandor L. Jr.
Nandor L. Darvas Jr., age 67 formerly of Toledo, died Sunday, September 27, 2015, in Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio. He was born April 1, 1948, to Nandor L. and Maria (Josezf) Darvas in Hungary. In 1957 Nandor and his parents left their home in Hungary, taking what they could carry, and often traveling at night on foot, to escape Hungary at the time of the Revolution. Nandor and his family relocated to Toledo, Ohio where he had to learn a new language and soon became U.S. citizens.
Nandor was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1969 and served most of his enlistment at Fort Carson, Colorado. Returning home to Toledo, Nandor enrolled at the University of Toledo, earning both a Bachelor's degree in Engineering and a Master's degree in Business Administration. He worked in the Engineering Departments of local Toledo manufacturing facilities including Ransom & Randolph, Dura, Peters Stamping, and Champion Spark Plug. He later retired from Champion due to health reasons. Nandor was an avid golfer, often traveling to Myrtle Beach where his goal was to play all the courses in the area.
Nandor was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his daughter, Chelsea Darvas; grandson, Carter Bella, both of Toledo, and brother, Endre (Liz) Gereben of Madison, TN.
Graveside services will be held Monday, October 19, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Swan Lake Mausoleum in Toledo Memorial Park. Arrangements have been entrusted to Urbanski Funeral Home, a Life Celebration r Home, Toledo (419) 475-5055. Online condolences may be offered at

My sympathies to Nondor's family. I remember him from our high school years at Start. Nondor's and family moved to the Seckinger home and our families had a lot in common. Our mothers were both Hungarian and visited and talked in Hungarian often. Nondor's home was hit by lightening and he lived with us for a time. We use to pick up his dad downtown at a place called Butler Saw Shop where he sharpened blades. I hope you had a super life as I do. Rest in peace. Rick Sabo
