William Lee “Papa”
William Lee “Papa” Kerr, 89, passed away peacefully at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center Palliative Care Unit, Toledo, OH on Saturday, April 2, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Toledo, OH on June 7, 1926, to Royal and Neva Kerr. He had 2 brothers, Royal, Jr. and Thomas. He graduated from Woodward High School, Toledo, Ohio in 1944. Following graduation, he served in the United States Army Air Force as an aircraft mechanic from 1944-1946. He married Marian R. Tank in Toledo, OH in 1949. Bill was a man of many talents and interests. At various times he worked as a professional wrestler, known as “Billy Kerr - Idol of the Bobbysoxers”, a semi-truck driver, taxi driver, and eventually opened The Lair Cocktail Lounge in South Toledo which he ran for a number of years. His hobbies included bow hunting, yachting, bodybuilding and collecting pictures and sculptures of bald eagles. He was a loyal Detroit Lions fan.
He is survived by his brother, Thomas; children, Karen (David) Mundwiler, Lynn (Peter) Granata, Judy (George) Hansen, Victoria (Michael) Mioduszewski, and Bartley Kerr; grandchildren, Dr. Matthew (Jenny) Mundwiler, Michael Mundwiler, Nicole Krueger, Anthony Hansen, Sam Granata, Sara Granata, Melissa Krueger, and Kylie Hansen; great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Mundwiler, Selena “Matilda” Krueger, Lucas Mundwiler, and Abby Mundwiler. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen D. Kerr; and by his brother, Royal, Jr. Bill's family would like to offer special thanks to the wonderful professionals of Nursing Resources Home Health, Senior Independence Hospice and St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Center for their compassionate care.
Arrangements by Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, Maumee, OH. Services will be private, for family only, with interment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Cemetery.
