Mary Ann Dionyssiou Obituary

DIONYSSIOU

Mary Ann

Mary Ann, 76, a.k.a "Mrs. Hot Dog" and "Yia Yia" went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 4, 2013, surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with diabetes. She was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 18, 1937, to Helen and Lawrence Cummins.

Mary Ann graduated from DeVilbiss High School and the Cincinnati Bible Seminary majoring in Art and Music. She met the love of her life, Harry, "Mr. Hotdog" of Rudy's Hot Dog. They married in 1959, and recently celebrated their 54th Wedding Anniversary. Together they raised two wonderful boys, Andy and Phillip.

Mary Ann's first love was her family. Her second love was volunteering and fund raising for multiple organizations. Flower Hospital was a grateful recipient of Mary Ann's endless volunteer services. She was an honorary volunteer member for over 30 years and past President

of the Auxiliary. Other

volunteer work included the Philoptochos Society of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, and Boulevard Church of Christ, where she was a member of the choir and an organist. She was also a past president of Sama Gamma Sorority, Quest Garden Club and past President of Toledo Garden Forum. Mary Ann was Chair Person of numerous fundraising events such as Moon Flower Ball and spent countless hours for many great causes.

Mary Ann's faith was

central to her life. She was baptized and raised at Boulevard Church of Christ and later converted to the Orthodox faith to join her family at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. We anticipate seeing Mary Ann with "tinted blue angel wings" and volunteering at many heavenly functions!

Traveling was one of Mary Ann's greatest loves, touring the world, and strengthening her faith at the Holy Land. Mary Ann and Harry frequented the Caribbean and Pacific Islands with family. Later in life, they found their new paradise in life at Devil's Lake, Michigan, where their cottage doors were always open and the food was plentiful at traditional holiday cookouts. Mary Ann loved to take pontoon rides around the lake with family and friends and especially her grandchildren. The "Dionyssiou Greek Olympics"

became a favorite Labor Day family tradition.

We will miss her larger than life presence and her love of life. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband, Harry; sons, Andy (Shelly), Phillip (Linda); grandchildren, Justin, Eric, Dayna, and Lauren; brother, Lowell (Rina), and numerous relatives and friends. Mary Ann will also be deeply missed by her cat "Chinchilla."

The family is deeply grateful to the Flower Hospital and Hickman Center staff and doctors for their love and care of Mary Ann. Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Mary Ann's memory are asked to consider the Hickman Center, Flower Hospital Auxiliary, or Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral.

The family will receive guests at Ansberg-West Funeral Home from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, November 7, 2013, with Trisagion prayer

services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Friday,

November 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek

Orthodox Cathedral with

Interment at Toledo Memorial Park, Sylvania, Ohio. Makaria luncheon will follow interment at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral. To send her family online condolences, please visit

Dear Uncle Harry, I am very sorry to hear of Aunt Mary Ann's passing. I have fond memories of her from my childhood in Toledo and remember her as a beacon of light for her family, friends and the entire community. Although there is the pain of losing her physical presence, you now have a close loved one pulling for you on the other side. She will truly be missed.

Mary Ann and I met the summer of l958 when we were members of the Jim and Joan Coder wedding party at Augsburg Church. We met again when a "surprise 40th wedding anniversary" party was held for Jim and Joan at their Sylvania home. When Joan passed away I remember Mary Ann gave a wonderful verbal remembrance of her friend Joan at a post-burial luncheon at the Sylvania Country Club. Her sister-in-law Joan and I were Devilbiss High School class mates. We always heard such nice comments about Mary Ann and her ability to help others. Our condolences to the Dionyssiou family.

Dear Harry and Family....

Our deepest sympathy to each of you on the passing of the beautiful and vivacious Mary Ann. Mary Ann had a heart of gold and was one that always lit up the room with her smile when you saw her and she will be truly missed by all.

We know that the days, weeks, and months to come will truly be hard without your Mary Ann; however, know that the only consolation in all of this is that you have such wonderful memories of Mary Ann that will always be with you as well as knowing that she is now "home" where we will all join her one day...she just happened to have finished "God's work for her here", and HE called her home... Lucky Mary Ann!!!

Our prayers are with you...
