FAIRHURST

William M.

Born in Patterson, New Jersey, in 1920, to Josephine M. and William Fairhurst. The family moved to Toledo where he attended Scott High School. He then went to Peddie School, graduated, and attended Yale University. He graduated early and joined the Navy as a commissioned officer serving on the USS John Rodgers. Upon the war's end, he returned to Toledo and married Marjorie Lucke in 1948.

He worked at Dana Corporation and affiliates Spicer and Hayes-Dana until his retirement in 1980. At the time of his retirement, he was executive vice president at Dana Corporation.

He was active at The Toledo Club, Walloon Lake Association - serving as its President - and SAE - in which he holds a lifetime membership.

He will be greatly missed by his daughters, Elizabeth Nelson (Dale) of The Villages, Florida, and Ann Fairhurst (Mark Cipra) of Chardon, Ohio; his brother, Thomas Fairhurst (Nancy) of Perrysburg, Ohio, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our friends at Swan Creek Retirement Village, Sheila from Senior Independence and Susan, Tina, Beth and John from Right at Home for the care and compassion that you have shown our Dad over the past year and a half.

A private family burial will be held at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Swan Creek Retirement Village or the Cherry Street Mission. Arrangements were entrusted to Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, Perrysburg (419-874-3133). Condolences may be made to the family online at:

To Betsy and Ann, and the entire family, though some four months late, having only now in January found this site with the news of his passing, your Dad, my Dad's best friend, with his bonhomie and sharp laugh punctuating it, to you Betsy and Ann, I renew these sad condolences. I saw him many years ago at the Lake, but after we left, and planted in leaving the kiss on his cheek that I had to.
I hope you are both well. Sorry I missed you.

Betsy,

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you mourn Dad's passing. We loved the stories that you and Dale told of Dad's interesting life. He's with your Mom now and resting in God's hands. Well take care of the compound until you return home.
