Dear DR. Bates and Karen, My heartfelt sympathies are with you and yours. Your father was a very special man as the Manions shared stories about him with me. May you find peace in your days a head knowing your father is enjoying God's smiling face and the rewards that accompany him in Our Lord's presence.
Warmly yours, Mary Jo Ballert(Barb Manion's daughter)

Fond memories of Uncle George will always remain with me. The wonderful summer when Uncle George & Aunt Louise were so kind in offering me a home to stay and I still have fond memories of my cousins. Beautiful summers when the whole family came to Montreal and Vermont are cherished memories. Uncle George gave me away on my wedding day in Montreal. We will miss you Uncle George.

Brian, Reading about your father's brilliant career and his devotion to family was very touching. It is so hard to lose such a special person from your family, but the memories of him will last for generations. My thoughts are with you and the family.

My deepest sympathy to the family of Dr. George Bates. He was always a mild mannered, sweet man. As a former St. Vincent nurse, I remember him well. He stood in the shadow of another great surgeon, but he found his own niche and was all the greater for it. He loved his Catholic Faith, as well, and was a model for all of us. His one candle lit many without diminishing his own.

My world is smaller without Uncle George. Even with 6 kids, he and Louise offered me a home while I was studying at St. Vincent's. I have so many wonderful memories of those days and all the times the family visited us in Montreal. I will miss him.
