Charles R. Leech Jr., 82, of Gambier, Ohio passed away May 17, 2013, at OSU Hospital East. An attorney for many years and a partner in the Toledo, Ohio, law firm of Fuller and Henry Ltd., Mr. Leech was a native of Newcomerstown, Ohio. As a graduate of Newcomerstown High School, he knew Cy Young, who lived on a nearby farm and who was a close friend to Mr. Leech's father.

In 1952, he received his undergraduate degree cum laude from Kenyon College. He was a member of the Collegian staff, the International Relations Club, the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, the football team, and the athletic association. In 1974, he was awarded the college's Gregg Cup. This award is given annually to a Kenyon graduate who has done the most for the college in the preceding year. From 1974 to 1980, he served as a trustee to the college.

In 1955, he received his law degree from The Ohio State University. At Ohio State, he was a member of Phi Delta Phi legal fraternity, managing editor of the Ohio State Law Journal, and vice-president of the student bar association. He was a life member of the Ohio State Alumni Association. He was also an avid Buckeye football fan, especially during those many years when Woody Hayes was the Buckeye coach. Coach Hayes, of course, was an earlier graduate of Newcomerstown High School.

In 1955, he was admitted to the Ohio Bar, and also began military service in the Far East with the U.S. Navy.

In 1957, he became associated with the Toledo, Ohio law firm of Fuller, Harrington, Seney and Henry; a predecessor of Fuller and Henry Ltd,. He later became a partner in the firm. He was a special counsel for the Ohio attorney general in the late 1960s. Over the years, he represented many clients in Toledo and elsewhere. In addition to being admitted to practice before the courts of the state of Ohio, he was also admitted to practice before several federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States.

In 1997, he and his wife moved to Gambier. They attended the Church of the Holy Spirit on the campus of Kenyon College where they were members of Harcourt Parish. Until 2000, he continued to serve as counsel to the Toledo law firm where he actively practiced law for almost 40 years. After his retirement as counsel, he was able to publish two books relating to his family's history: A Leech Family of Newcomerstown, Ohio (2002) and Three John Brothers in the Civil War (2005).

Surviving Mr. Leech is his wife of almost 60 years, Patricia Ann (Tubaugh) formerly of Cleveland; son, Charles R Leech III, and daughter-in-law, Monica of Logan; daughter, Wendy Leech Wolfe; son-in-law, Michael L. Wolfe of Gambier. Another son, Timothy David Leech preceded Mr. Leech in death on September 3, 1969. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Elizabeth Harper Johnson and Maxwell Leech Wolfe.

There will be a private burial at Quarry Chapel in Gambier. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home is handling the funeral services for the Leech family.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any tributes be in the form of contributions to the Timothy David Leech Scholarship Fund at Kenyon College or a charity of the donor's choice.
