James Zunk Obituary

James M. Zunk, age 74, of Oregon, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2006, peacefully surrounded by his family at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg. James was born in Curtice, Ohio and graduated from Clay High School in 1951. He was very proud to serve and protect his country in the Korean War from 1951-1953 receiving a Purple Heart as part of the 53rd Infantry 101st Airborne Division. James married the love of his life, his devoted best friend and wife, Janet (Huss) in 1954. He worked for Oregon City Schools as a custodian for 42 years retiring in 1995. James was a 50 year member of the Christ Dunberger American Legion Post#537, the D.A.V., and Christ United Methodist Church. James loved gardening and especially his family; he was a warm, loving father and grandfather.
James is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Ron (Tammi) Zunk, Gail (Dennis) Grotz of Austin, MN, Gary (Linda) Zunk, Jennifer Zunk; 9 grandchildren, Clayton, Courtney, Jacob, Alexandra, Alexis, Sidney, Carson, Jaret, and Ean; sister, Mary "Cookie" Gillespie and brother, Fred Zunk of Oak Harbor. James is preceded in death by his maternal parents, Fred and Anna Zunk; adopted parents, Helmuth and Ruth Zunk; brothers, Fladget, Nelson, and Earl Zunk; sisters, Gladys Zitzman and Margaret Hierholzer.
Friends may visit at Freck Funeral Chapel, Wynn at Pickle Rd., Oregon (419) 693-9304, Tuesday, March 7, 2006, from 4 until 9 p.m. where Legion services will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 5757 Starr Ave. Oregon, Wednesday, March 8, 2006, at 11 a.m. where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are appreciated to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or Christ United Methodist Church.
