Herb was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Daniel Robert Siewert and Alice Ethel Wendland Siewert, the youngest of three children

Herb served in the Big Red One during the Korean War, after which he earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois. While at the "U of I," Alice Ann Knuth and he married; they shared nearly 48 years.

Faith defined Herb's life. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, serving on several committees and was a very proud member of the choir.

Herb's degree lead him into the world of HVACR compressor design, where he enjoyed a distinguished career with Carrier, Chrysler Airtemp, Fedders Corp and Tecumseh Products Company. Herb was credited with several patents, including part of the cooling system of the Apollo missions; known affectionately as the "Siewert flipper."

Sailing was Herb's passion. He was an avid member of the Port Oliver Yacht Club, Barren River Lake in Kentucky, lending his knowledge and time to various committees as a past commodore.

"Kind" is the word universally used to describe Herb Siewert. His love and devotion to family was the foundation upon which all was built.

Herbert was predeceased by his wife, Alice Ann and daughter, Valinda Jean Snyder; as well his parents and sister, Roberta Jean. He is survived by his brother, Daniel R. Jr. (Carol); daughter, Jenny Lynn (William J. Merritt Jr.); son-in-law, Gregory Snyder; as well as grandchildren, Victoria and Alexandria Merritt, Christine and Steven Snyder and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Herb's life will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church March 28, 2015. A 9:30 a.m. visitation will be followed by an 11:00 memorial service and luncheon. At Herb's wishes, cremation has already taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 533 Ashmoor Ave., Bowling Green, KY 42114.
