Joseph E. Sr. "Opa"



Joseph E. Sartor Sr. "Opa," age 88, of Toledo, passed away on October 25, 2015, at Vibrant Life Assisted Living surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 13, 1926, in Toledo to Eugene and Juliana (Hope) Sartor. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Joe was stationed in Germany during World War II where he met and married his wife, Hella. Following the war he worked for a brief time as a fireman for the railroad. Joe was employed by General Mills in maintenance for 35 years and was the custodian for Regina Coeli Catholic Church for 15 years.

Joe and his wife, Hella, were charter members of Regina Coeli Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, volunteered as an usher and was a basketball coach at Regina Coeli School. Joe was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus West Toledo Council 3122. An avid bowler, Joe participated in various bowling leagues. He enjoyed his weekly breakfasts with his fellow retirees from General Mills. An avid gardener, Joe could always be found tending to his flowers and vegetables. He was very fond of taking long walks and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his daughters, Juliana Sartor and Josephine (Aaron) Bryant; sons, John Sartor and Jeffrey (Julie) Sartor; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Sartor; sister, Juliana Morrin; brothers, William (Esther) Sartor, Frank (Angie) Sartor and Charles Sartor; grandchildren, Michelle (James) Jones, Joseph Michael Sartor, Aaron (Jill) Bryant Jr., Ryan Sartor, Jeffrey Sartor Jr., Laura Bryant, Donald Sartor, Jenny (Ben) Pierce and Steven Ednie, and great-grandchildren, Dylan and Nicholas Bryant, Nathan and Cameron Jones, Luke and Evan Bryant, and Trenton Sartor. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hella (Rippel) Sartor; son, Joseph Sartor Jr., and brother, Eugene Sartor.

Family and friends may visit Thursday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sujkowski Funeral Home Northpointe, 114 E. Alexis Rd. with recitation of the rosary by members of the Regina Coeli Holy Name Society and K of C Council 3122 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin on Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Funeral Mass in Regina Coeli Church at 10:00 a.m. The Lucas County Burial Corps will conclude with Military Honors in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be given to Regina Coeli Church. Joe's family would like to extend a special thanks to ProMedica Hospice and the staffs at Vibrant Life and Hickory Ridge. Please share condolences at:

I am sad to hear of Joe's passing. He was a wonderful fellow employee at General Mills. Joe was always a very nice man and a great worker.
