Dear Tom and Family, My condolences for the lost of your mother. I never had a chance to meet her but the evidence of her beauty, grace, and character is expressed through her children. I lost my mother on Christmas Eve and found out about your lost as I was dealing with my own. As sad and empty as the holiday season is without them...what an impact of what Christmas truly means knowing both of our mothers spent them with Christ this year. Much love and prayers to your family from ours.

Seeing Joan's name in the paper reminded me of an incident almost exactly 40 years ago. I had had my third child with the Rh problem and he needed a blood transfusion. Joan came to Mercy hospital to donate directly for him. Since I worked at Mercy, I was able to find out the name of the donor to send a thank you card. As it turned out, Joan had lived next door to my in-laws when she was younger, on Mayfield Drive, and babysat for my husband.
From reading and hearing what a wonderful woman she was, I hope that some of that wonderfulness is also in my son's blood! Thank you again, Joan, for your gift of life. Our sympathy to your family.

I only new Joan for a couple of years when I met her at Kingston rehab when my mom was there. I got to know her and Vin when they would come into the Mayberry Diner. I so looked forward to talking with them both, to see how Joan was doing and just chatting. She was such a caring person and the last time I was able to have a real conversation with her, she was comforting me with kind words when my mom passed away. My wish for all of you is that time will heal your sorrow, friends ease your pain and all your memories will help you through this trying time.

I will miss Aunt Joan so much. Even though I saw her only once or twice a year, I always looked forward to our time together. She was always so happy and positive, she made every visit fun. She was my inspiration when I was a child and continued to be even when I visited her in the hospital a few weeks ago. Much love and sympathy to Uncle Vin, Tom and Paul.
