Elizabeth Dunmire Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 20, 2012.
Elizabeth Jane (Ednie) Dunmire, 83, of Orchard Hills, Kiskiminetas Township, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, in her home following hospital stays and recent hospice care. Elizabeth was born Dec. 12, 1929, in Indiana, Pa., to the late George and Mary Elizabeth (Ferrance) Ednie, and lived in the Apollo area all of her life. Mrs. Dunmire was a graduate of Bell-Avon High School and the Indiana Area Hospital Licensed Practical Nursing Program. She was primarily a homemaker, but worked at Citizens General Hospital, New Kensington, Armstrong County Health Center, Kittanning, and also as an independent home healthcare provider for nearby families. Mrs. Dunmire previously attended the First United Church of Christ, Apollo, where she taught Sunday school, and was active in supporting her children's school activities. She was very kind and generous with gift-giving for family birthdays, graduations and Christmas and Easter gatherings. Mrs. Dunmire enjoyed reading, watching televised figure skating, gardening and spending time with her family. She was keenly aware of current events, having an interest and opinions about local and national events. Although quiet and reserved in her demeanor, Mrs. Dunmire had a "heart of gold" and was a loving and caring person to her family. She enjoyed working in her yard and keeping beds of wildlife flowers, happily watching the nature of animals and birds. Mrs. Dunmire was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" K. Dunmire, who died in 1970; sister, Eleanor L. Talmage, in 2006; and brother, George "Gene" E. Ednie, in 1972. Surviving are a son, Douglas (Randa) Dunmire, of Kiskiminetas Township; and three daughters, Debra L. (William) Kerr, of Kiskiminetas Township, Cynthia (Glenn) Ezzard, of Eatonton, Ga., and Melissa (Ronald) Held, of North Apollo; grandchildren, Angie Williams, Lisa Marie (Marc) Rodnicki, Michael Kerr, Shelby Ezzard, Katlin Ezzard, Brian Held, Aubree Held, Brad Held and Abigail Held; and great-grandson, Calvin Michael Rodnicki. At the request of Mrs. Dunmire, arrangements were made through the American Association of Retired Persons and Barnhart Funeral Home Inc., Greensburg, for cremation with appropriate prayers and family transfer. There will be no public visitation. A private memorial service for family members will be held at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Apollo, with the Rev. Dr. Phillip S. Ramstad officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in Elizabeth's name to the First Lutheran Church, 214 N. Pennsylvania Ave., P.O. Box 275, Apollo, PA 15613.
