Lawrence Copney Jr. Avonmore Lawrence "Larry" "Cope" Copney Jr., 60, of Avonmore, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. Born Dec. 1, 1951, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Lawrence Copney Sr. and Bessie (Wright) Copney. Larry lived in Avonmore all of his life and was the former owner of Lawrence Copney Sanitation, a family business that passed through several generations, operating it from 1993 until he retired in 2005. Larry was a 1971 graduate of Kiski High School, and a veteran of the Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Family Christian Church in Truxell, and sang as part of the Church Worship Team. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan. But he most enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Denise Marie Copney, who passed away June 8, 2004; sister, Diana Lynn Robles; and a brother, Richard Copney. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Lisa Ann (Brake) Copney; children, Lawrence "Larry" Copney III, of Blairsville, Ericka Copney, of Arnold, Edward Farrell, of Charlotte, N.C., Nehemiah Farrell, of Avonmore, and Emanuel Farrell, of Avonmore; nine grandchildren, including grandson, Owen, whom Larry raised as a son; brother, Edward E. "Pete" Copney, of Export, Sandra L. Copney, of Jacksonville, Fla., Linda B. Okeke of New Haven, Conn., Susan E. Copney, of Jacksonville, Fla., Laura Jane Copney, of New Haven, Conn.; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2012, at the CURRAN-SHAFFER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Croce officiating. Interment in Westview Cemetery, Avonmore. Memorial contributions may be made in Larry's name to the Family Christian Church, 111 Truxell Road, Apollo, PA 15613.
