Nicholas A. Morea, 88, of Vandergrift, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, in Belair Health and Rehabilitation Center, Lower Burrell. Born July 7, 1924, in Vandergrift, he was a son of the late Frank and Rose (Elefante) Morea. A lifelong resident of Vandergrift, Mr. Morea was a 1942 graduate of Vandergrift High School and retired in 1990 after more than 30 years of service from the Vandergrift Police Department, where he had served as a lieutenant and chief. A veteran of the Marine Corps, he served during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was very proud that he had been a part of the Kiski Area Football Program since 1962. He was a member of St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and Fireman's Clubs, president of the Italian American Bari Society, member of the American Legion, all in Vandergrift, and the Slovak and Lithuanian Clubs in East Vandergrift. Mr. Morea was also a member of the FOP Allegheny Valley Lodge No. 39. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Perpich) Morea in 1974; and a son, Thomas A. Morea in 1998. Survivors include two sons, Nicholas F. (Kimberley) Morea, of Plum Borough, and Michael A. Morea and his companion, Tara Belch, of Pasadena, Md.; grandson, Kevin Morea, of Plum Borough; brother, Frank Morea, of Glenshaw; sister, Martha Watterson, of Vandergrift; longtime companion, Pat Rametta, of Vandergrift; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation was held last Thursday at the BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. A Mass of Christian Burial was held last Friday in St. Gertrude Roman Catholic Church, Vandergrift, with Father James Loew, OSB, as celebrant. Burial was in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Vandergrift, with full military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard Inc. The family suggest that memorial contribution be made to the Kiski Area Cavalier Football Alumni Association, 219 N. Warren Ave., Apollo, PA 15613.
