Kenneth Swope, 80, of West Newton, died Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Excela Health Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Born Nov. 5, 1925, in Whyles, he was a son of the late Earl and Minnie (Reed) Swope. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by CSX for over 40 years. Kenneth was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Theresa (Muha) Swope; four children, Melissa Petros and husband, James, of Hunker, Patricia Calcagni and husband, Ralph, of Ruffsdale, Kenneth Swope, at home, and John Swope and wife, Betty Jo, of Smithton; five grandchildren, James Petros and wife, Bernadette, of Kearny, Ariz., Daniel Petros, of Hunker, Brandon and Ryan Calcagni, both of Ruffsdale, and Mary Swope, of Smithton; and a sister, Betty Jane Germock, of Ruffsdale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Loretta Swope; and seven brothers, Eugene, Earl, Robert, Fred, Duane, Chester and Gerald Swope. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the J. WILLIAM McCAULEY JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., 901 Vine St., West Newton, where a service will be held at noon Monday with the Rev. Andrew G. Slade officiating.
